Best Use

I'm making melody in myheart to you

What are the biggest time wasters in your life?

For me, it’s the Internet. I can start out with purpose, maybe to do something reasonably industrious like check our finances or order something we need, but before long I am an hour later and I’m many, many clicks away from where I started! Do you recognise that?

Well, Paul encourages us to use our time well in our reading today. Let’s take a look at Ephesians 5:15-21.

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,  addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart,  giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Thoughts for Today

  1. Make a list of what we are to do and what we are not to do from these verses. What characterises them when they are laid side by side?
  2. Not all our time needs to be spent in busy-ness, or endless doing, but when we have down time from our jobs or our work, what can help us make sure we make best use of the time we have?
  3. How does focussing on God even when we are relaxing or spending time with others help and benefit us?
  4. In what ways do you do this already and in what ways could you improve?

Prayers for Today

  • Let’s pray today about how we use our time, how we can better use our time, and how our time can be spent with the Lord.

Grace and Love
